Xie Lei, born in 1983, Huainan, China. He lives and works in Paris.

Xie Lei is a central figure on the French figurative scene. His works, caught between the fire of abstraction and the calm of figuration, are always imbued with lyricism. His paintings seek out the essence of people, animals and nature.

So what does Xie Lei see? Undoubtedly the inner force or bubbling that animates our entire being. Even more, the human expression of states, feelings and emotions that transcend us: hatred, love, the passage of time and death.

Xie Lei's canvases are like infernos, foreign substances that ceaselessly consume themselves and deliver themselves entirely to us. Each representation is a culmination, a moment chosen because it is the most intense.

His work has been exhibited in numerous institutions: MO.CO, Montpellier; CAPC, Bordeaux; Villa Noailles, Hyères; Collection Lambert, Avignon; MAC VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine; Fondation Langen, Neuss; Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration, Paris; Fondation Yishu 8, Beijing; Fondation d'entreprise Ricard, Paris. His work can be found in public and private collections such as Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, MAC VAL, Burger Collection and X Museum. Xie Lei recently had a solo show at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
