Marcel·la Barceló

Marcel·la Barceló, born in 1992, Palma de Majorque, Spain. She lives and works in Paris.

The universe into which Marcel·la Barceló's paintings plunge us is fluid: on the border between color and the most intense half-light, between the strength of perspective and the absence of any rules of construction on the details of her figures. We oscillate, or rather bathe, in a floral imaginary, where nature lulls us to sleep.

Marcella Barceló's painting and drawing work is imbued with her regular trips to Japan and the Buddhist philosophy she discovers. In these psychedelic colors reminiscent of cherry blossoms or dense forests, we find some of the influence of Lewiss Caroll's fantasy.

The metaphor of the passage from childhood to adolescence is undoubtedly at the heart of Barceló's work, mingled with this colorful quest for the senses and pleasure, even when his figures are ghostly or ephemeral.

Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions both in France and internationally. She participated in the Biennale de Dessin Contemporain de Paris in 2014 and was awarded the Prix du Dessin Contemporain of the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2015. Her work can be found in the collections of the Fondation Louis Vuitton (France), Xiao Museum (China), Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza (Spain), Cabinet de Dessin des Beaux-Arts de Paris (France), Fondation Guerlain (France), Fonds de Dotation Emerige (France) among others.
