Zhao Yinou

Zhao Yinou, born in 1972, Shenyang, China. He lives and works in Beijing.

 

Zhao Yinou's fascination with the mystical is similar to that of the Pre-Raphaelites and Symbolists. In these intimate compositions, the figures seem to emerge from the gloom, coming to bring and seek a little light, in a continual struggle with the forces of night. 

 

The vertigo that Yinou succeeds in producing baffles our gaze, which is caught up in a scene in full motion that already seems to be evaporating in front of us. Beyond this interest in the forces of evil and the sacredness of the dark, Yinou delves into the comic and even the cosmogonic. 

 

In every one of his representations, whether on canvas or wood panel, we often see the same call to the celestial worlds. Occasionally, certain figures or symbols are reminiscent of constellations in a sky plunged entirely into night. 

 

Zhao Yinou's works have been exhibited at several venues, including the Enjoy Art Museum in Beijing, the Zhuzhong Art Museum in Beijing and the Guangdong Fine Arts Museum. A solo exhibition of his wood sculptures was held at Space Station Beijing in 2019.
