Wang Yi: Hangzhou

13 February - 13 March 2014

Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery is pleased to present Wang Yi's first exhibition. Wang Yi’s practice is closely related to the new abstract movement in China initiated by Ding Yi. Obviously influenced by Frank Stella and Vasarely, his works rely on chromatic variations and geometrical shapes to create an illusion of movement and depth within the canvas.

Titled the “Location” series, the works are typical of the new generation of Chinese artists’ production, many of whom to choose to abstain from any political or social commentary in their creations to focus on visual impact and conceptual practice instead.

Born in 1991, Wang Yi graduated from the China Academy of Art in 2013. His work has already been exhibited at the M Art Center in Shanghai and at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. His exhibition will present recent abstract paintings using acrylic.
